First week(s) of class!For the first several weeks of class, we will be talking about
what Mythology IS. This will involve a two-or-three day activity which will (among other things) ask you to think about whether Elvis is a myth. The answer may not be as straightforward as you think! After we finish this exploration, we will spend a bit more than a week looking at various versions of the Daedalus/Icarus myth: Why does this myth appeal to so many poets, artists and musicians? After Icarus plummets to his death, over and over again, we will spend some time thinking about a hero named Theseus. |
